The Gift of a Cloche...

When I go Junktiqueing... I take a list. Last year, on my trip with Candy to Roundtop/Zapp Hall/Warrenton... I had "wire cloche" at the top of my list... I found one, which was manufactured.. not exactly what I was looking for and at $40... well... it was definitely NOT what I was looking for!

Seeing my disappointment.. dear sweet friend Candy said... "Shoot, I've got chicken wire... I'll just make ya one!"  She didn't know she'd spend hours on the internet looking at the "how to" instructions and videos on YouTube... and the the battle with the wire that would ensue, while she tried to mend and mold it into place...

But Candy is nothing if not determined.. and so on my recent visit to her guest house, the Red Bird Inn... she presented me with her very first original chicken wire cloche...

When we went thrifting in Austin the following day... I found the perfect vintage glass knob  at Uncommon Objects, to add to the top... and then had Ricky dig around in his shop for two old washers.. he found the perfect pair... slightly rusty with peeling paint...

Now that I have it... I've temporarily housed a pair of birdie S&P shakers sitting atop a vintage Frankoma plate in Prarire Green...

They say it takes a village to raise a child... 

Apparently it takes a village to get Dixie her much sought after and now...

Framed by the Skates....

Not the best photos... but you get the idea... right? I've been a little under the weather with a cold this week and had to cancel a flea market trip with Candy because of it... so I decided to post something that I'd actually accomplished in the past week... 

I wrote about finding the ice skates and some of the ideas I'd seen for them... Here...

and here it is... My Goodwill ice skates framed with an old square frame from Beverly's Glory B's Cottage...  

I love the way it turned out! 

I'd seen a photo of skates with fold over socks and I liked the way it looked... since I'd purchased a red sweater to create a pillow for my sofa, I decided to cut off the sleeves to create the fold over socks... 

and a photo of my Christmas nose-gay that greets visitors in the entryway...

Spring Cleaning Vacation... and a break!

This week I'm spending most of my time Spring Cleaning... taking a week off to clean... must be in my Southern Girl blood...

But on Friday... I've got fun planned... a much needed break for a girlfriend day of thrift shopping with Candy... We'll meet in Geronimo at Blue Hills Antique Mall and then visit our friend, Miss Beverly, at Glory B's before decided where to venture next... Bet I'll some interesting stuff to post about if I can just remember to take my camera!!!

And last but certainly not least... my new fav photo of my sweet granddaughter, the Panda...

Holding her faux camera in hand... she said to my daughter... her mother the photographer....

Lunch Break!

Today is a happy day! Sister Lili and I are meeting Candy for lunch! I can hardly wait! She's bringing goody bags for us from Paper Cowgirl, that Cindy was sweet enough to send when I had to cancel due to my stinkin' knee! I'm looking forward to hearing all about Paper Cowgirl 2010 and the fun stuff that I missed! But the best part will be seeing Candy and catching up. You see, my friend Candy always, always makes me smile and laugh...

Silver Sunday... Thrifty Silver Finds...

As those of you who read my blog with any regularity know, I love to thrift shop... and one of my favorite thrifting buddies is Candy at Rock Candy... A few months ago Candy and I made our last trip to Wimberley Market Days for 2009... and that's where I came upon these...

A pretty set of candlesticks... the pair for $5... I couldn't pass them up! So, I brought them hope and will some silver polish and a little elbow grease...

Yep... they turned into these... a beautiful pair of SILVER candle holders... I knew they were quite heavy... but who could have known?!

I've seen other similar candlesticks...

but I haven't found any...

that I like better, or for a better price...

They adorned my Christmas table... and are sitting there still...

Then last week, after seeing all the pretty silver S&P's on the 1st Silver Sunday, I ran across this pretty pair at Beverly's Glory B's Cottage in Geronimo... (only $7)

though they were tarnished...

but I took care of that without delay... (sorry all you "love the tarnish" gals... I just have to polish...)

They have a simple little scrolling decoration around the tops...

and I think they are just perfect sitting next to my bargain candle holders...

Here they are... about the cost of a lunch at Chili's... A pretty shiny reminder of two of my favorite thrifting places and two of my favorite thrifting people...

Wimberley Finds... for Thrifty Thursday...

I thought Thrifty Thursday would be the perfect place to show you what I found while shopping Wimberley Market Days with Candy on Saturday.

Candy and I seldom desire the same treasure... it's not that our tastes are that different... we just always seem to be looking for different items when we're together... however, this Saturday... I beat her to these vintage silk millinery violets... just $2 a bunch! Sorry Candy!

Then I found these adorable S & P shakers. Funny thing was, Candy already owns them, though the slightly taller version... along with the complete set of stoneware... Good thing we don't go for the same treasures huh? I probably won't use them for S & P... just to decorate... they're so cute!
I also found these candle sticks... $5 for the set... boy were they heavy. I couldn't believe the price. The lady told me she bought them at an estate sale and she wasn't sure whether or not they were silver... hummmm...

Yep... they are silver... beautiful vintage silver candlesticks... a very good thing!
Then last but not least... I fell in love with this...
A beautiful pillow made from vintage silks and adorned with vintage pearls.
A thrifty treasure for sure... handmade... vintage silk... only $20.

So there you have it, as promised. My beautiful vintage, thrifty finds... found while shopping Saturday at Wimberley Market Days with Candy... Wish ya'll were there.

Junkin' with Candy the Junkin Queen... In Wimberley...

The weatherman had predicted 100% chance of rain today for our area... and though Candy lives about 1-1/2 hours away from where I live... in Texas... we're in the same area... So I called her this morning about 7:45 a.m. to tell her I was leaving and heading to Wimberley (Candy lives in Wimberley where the Market Days are held)... I told her it was raining buckets in French Lique...but according to Candy... it wasn't raining in Wimberley... "yet"...

Let me just say that it rained on me for the next 75-miles... But it was worth the trip... Candy forgot her camera... so I was designated "photographer for the day", which I failed at, miserably... but here are a few shots I thought you'd enjoy.

Not long after we arrived, we wandered in to one of our favorite little shops and Candy found something she really really loved...

Wall art made from baby doll parts and architectural salvage... I'm telling you... this is right up Candy's alley...
She was especially fond of the "Blue Baby" with his one pink arm... Now these little beauties ran from $35 to about $50... a little pricey for the ever thrifty Candy... besides... she has all this stuff at home... except for the baby doll parts... So guess what we spent the rest of the day looking for? Yep, baby dolls and baby doll parts... I think Candy bought 5 or 6 little baby dolls... all $3 each or less... So don't be surprised when you begin to see these little "Edward Scissor Hands" proto types showing up in Rock Candy...
We probably ventured into 100 little shops today... I always like this one, and I adore the sign on the front of their roof... Candy and I often find back issues of cottage and romantic design magazines here...

and today was no exception... I think Candy picked up a couple of issues of Romantic Home... I know what you're thinking... you're thinking "isn't that Candy just the cutest thing in her denim hat with the flowers"... yep... I think about 15-people stopped us to tell Candy how adorable she was... and she was... and is... (Dixie smiles to self).

Now this would be a good time to tell you that Candy is about to celebrate her 53rd birthday. Don't tell her I told you, but it's a week from tomorrow... October 11th. Remember, mums the word! "wink-wink"...
Before long, the rain came to Wimberley and cut our little junkin' trip short... good thing too... my old bones were rusting...

So what did I buy...? well, I guess you'll just have to stop by sometime next week and see.. Since I was the official photographer today, I couldn't buy and photo at the same time... now I'm off to sink my weary bones into the hot tub and relax... it's been a busy day down here in French Lique...

Junkin Fever... but I think I'll live...

Yes, I have a real job... fortunately I'm on commission, so that leaves me with plenty of time to work in a little junkin' with my favorite junkin' buddy, Candy. I had a couple of appointments in San Marcos today, so I called Candy and we met at our favorite San Marcos thrift store, Twice Blessed.

Every time I'm with Candy, I get Junkin' fever... but it's a good thing!

and after some serious junkin'... we went here for lunch..

it's a church, built in 1901, and lovingly restored. Now, The Price Center, is a Tea Room...

After a brief tour by our hostess and guide, Marilyn, we sat down by french doors to dine on delicious strawberry lemonade... gosh it was refreshing! (it was 100-degrees in south Texas today!)

and this delicious plate lunch of chicken salad, fresh veggies, fruit, crackers and banana bread... oh.. and we had a slice of lemon meringue pie too, but I forgot to take a photo before we ate it all gone! Just take my word for it... the slice of pie was as beautiful, as it was delicious!

and now... the treasures...
this is a little vintage Fenton sherbet... I love the colors! ($4.95)

and two glass (crystal?) candle sticks... $1.78...

Candy and I parted after lunch... me to appointments, she... more junkin' in Kyle, Texas...
but on my way home... I drove by Beverly's Glory B's and saw this...
a tea cart that perfectly matches my newly painted porch furniture... I don't have to do a thing... $29!

and this.. an ornate but rustic lawn chair... which I have big plans for...

isn't it fabulous! and yes, with the help of Beverly and Renee (Renee's part of
Glory B's is featured in my header photo... yes, she's the violin case lady), I was able to fit both pieces into my little sports car... don't ask me how we did it... but we did it!

Then the coolest thing happened... Beverly told me that she has had so many people come in to her little shop mentioning they had read about her on my blog. She said she has been so busy, she just couldn't believe it! She gave me a great big hug and said "Thank you so much Dixie!... we really appreciate it!"
