The weatherman had predicted 100% chance of rain today for our area... and though Candy lives about 1-1/2 hours away from where I live... in Texas... we're in the same area... So I called her this morning about 7:45 a.m. to tell her I was leaving and heading to Wimberley (Candy lives in Wimberley where the Market Days are held)... I told her it was raining buckets in French Lique...but according to Candy... it wasn't raining in Wimberley... "yet"...
Let me just say that it rained on me for the next 75-miles... But it was worth the trip... Candy forgot her camera... so I was designated "photographer for the day", which I failed at, miserably... but here are a few shots I thought you'd enjoy.
Not long after we arrived, we wandered in to one of our favorite little shops and Candy found something she really really loved...
Wall art made from baby doll parts and architectural salvage... I'm telling you... this is right up Candy's alley...
She was especially fond of the "Blue Baby" with his one pink arm... Now these little beauties ran from $35 to about $50... a little pricey for the ever thrifty Candy... besides... she has all this stuff at home... except for the baby doll parts... So guess what we spent the rest of the day looking for? Yep, baby dolls and baby doll parts... I think Candy bought 5 or 6 little baby dolls... all $3 each or less... So don't be surprised when you begin to see these little "Edward Scissor Hands" proto types showing up in Rock Candy...
We probably ventured into 100 little shops today... I always like this one, and I adore the sign on the front of their roof... Candy and I often find back issues of cottage and romantic design magazines here...

and today was no exception... I think Candy picked up a couple of issues of Romantic Home... I know what you're thinking... you're thinking "isn't that Candy just the cutest thing in her denim hat with the flowers"... yep... I think about 15-people stopped us to tell Candy how adorable she was... and she was... and is... (Dixie smiles to self).
Now this would be a good time to tell you that Candy is about to celebrate her 53rd birthday. Don't tell her I told you, but it's a week from tomorrow... October 11th. Remember, mums the word! "wink-wink"...
Before long, the rain came to Wimberley and cut our little junkin' trip short... good thing too... my old bones were rusting...

So what did I buy...? well, I guess you'll just have to stop by sometime next week and see.. Since I was the official photographer today, I couldn't buy and photo at the same time... now I'm off to sink my weary bones into the hot tub and relax... it's been a busy day down here in French Lique...

I just knew a little rain wouldn't stop you Dixie! Besides, it's such a blessed relief that it just feels wrong to complain, doesn't it? DH is moving the gallery today, so far the big rain has held off, we'll see how the rest of the day goes. Can't wait to see what you found in Wimberly. And you're right, Candy is adorable in that hat. Have a relaxing weekend. Kathy
If you weren't 1 1/2 hours away I'd be right there in the hot tub sipping a bottle of wine with you. We did have fun today even under the umbrellas. Hope you are feeling the spring back in your step.
Thanks for documenting our day. Wish I had captured you in a photo or two. Next time I won't forget my camera.
Your are a dear friend ;-)
ps we should have shared those huge plates of quesadillas.
You two are so lucky to have each other, Dixie!! You are both so nice!! I am glad you got the rain...and it is raining here in Western Michigan, reminds me of A Rainy Night In Georgia..."feels like it's rainin' all over the world". Oh, I love that song!!
This looks like such a wonderful way to spend a Saturday! But doll parts, not for me. I don't like dolls at all unless they are for chidren, being played with by children. All else gives me the creeps!! Sorry Candy!!
I hope you are in a warm cuddly bed all settled in for a little T.V. or a good book and lights out at 10:00, young lady!! ;-)
xoxo

Yes, it's been raining here all day too. Glad you two had a good time at Market Days. Wimberley is always a fun outing. I'm going to have to put Market Days on my calendar and get myself over there again. Enjoy your hot soak. ~ Sarah
Oh what a fun day. (not the rain) You did a good job as photographer.
The doll parts ... a wee bit creepy ... but to each their own. I'm sure she had fun looking.
Have a great rest of the weekend. It's COLD here in east Tennessee! Warm hugs!
Hi Dixie~~What a wonderful day, you are sooo lucky to have each other to junk around with!
Candy does look adorable in her little daisy hat:)
Does that mean more rain is headed to GA? Need to check the weather;)
Thanks so much for the 'road trip!'
Hugs,
Lynn♥

don't know why but, I love that blue doll
Raining like cats and dogs here in Italy.
I'm headed to Canton next month to find things for the new barnhouse
Have a blessed Sunday
What fun! We used to vacation in Wimberly when I was a kid!
You've teased me! I'm curious about what you bought. That doll "art" could go for Blue Monday!
we were fortunate up here in DFW area rain didn't hit till saturday evening time...had a beautiful saturday day...unfortunately looks like rain all week up here
We used to live on Lake McQueeny, near Seguin so I've been to Wimberly often. Such a fun place to go and you know all the best shops to find bargains!

Looks like a fun day despite the rain. Those little mixed up dolls reminded me of Toy Story and the neighbor boy sid. He broke all his toys and put them back together "creatively". The other toys were scared of them! Candy looked fabulous. I'll have to go tell her so!
Hugs,
Dawn
Hey You, It has been a while and I missed coming to your blog, but everything on computer seems to be working now and I am trying to catch up. Yesterday, Sharon and I went to College Station and she was telling me about the doll thingies, so I had to come see for myself.
Come see me,
Hi Dixie!
Whew...you gals just have the best fun, don't you? Yep, Candy's adorable in her little ensemble...
Glad you had fun...sorry about the rain, but I have to say, I'm from the Pacific Northwest....where we're KNOWN for rain. :-)
Hugs,
Spencer
Candy surely is cute in her denim hat! I have a similar hat, and she has now inspired me to add some vintage millinery trim to mine and wear it in the same fashion. Please wish her an early happy birthday for me - my birthday is this month, also - and she and I are the very same age!
