Blue Monday... Photos I've Been Saving for Sally...

I don't have a whole lot of blue in my house... so every time I go thrifting or junking (is it the same thing? I'm not sure?)... anyway... every time I go, I'm always taking photo of blue things... and I always think... I'll post this one for Sally's Blue Monday...
today... I've picked just a few of my favorite blue finds... these photos I've been saving just for you Sally...

This vintage blue thingy... a frosted blue candle holder... It was quite expensive... neither junk nor thrift.. thus it was left for another lover of blue...

I just love this Fenton Blue Crested vase... Pretty milkglass vase trimmed in clear blue glass... just beautiful... you might also notice a bit of blue transferware in the background... not by accident I might add...

This wonderful blue rooster cookie jar was one of my favorite finds... the price was right, but alas... his pretty blue tail had broken off and then poorly repaired... I'm not one that refuses to buy an item repaired... I'm just a little picky about the quality of the repair job...

I really love the pretty blue and white bell in the photo too... so delicate and pretty... Just for you Sally...

So Sally... when you're ready to come visit Texas... us Texas gals will take you out for one of our favorite margaritas... at our favorite TexMex food spot... with plenty of blue... just for you...

and that's a promise from Down Here in French Lique...

Junkin' with Candy the Junkin Queen... In Wimberley...

The weatherman had predicted 100% chance of rain today for our area... and though Candy lives about 1-1/2 hours away from where I live... in Texas... we're in the same area... So I called her this morning about 7:45 a.m. to tell her I was leaving and heading to Wimberley (Candy lives in Wimberley where the Market Days are held)... I told her it was raining buckets in French Lique...but according to Candy... it wasn't raining in Wimberley... "yet"...

Let me just say that it rained on me for the next 75-miles... But it was worth the trip... Candy forgot her camera... so I was designated "photographer for the day", which I failed at, miserably... but here are a few shots I thought you'd enjoy.

Not long after we arrived, we wandered in to one of our favorite little shops and Candy found something she really really loved...

Wall art made from baby doll parts and architectural salvage... I'm telling you... this is right up Candy's alley...
She was especially fond of the "Blue Baby" with his one pink arm... Now these little beauties ran from $35 to about $50... a little pricey for the ever thrifty Candy... besides... she has all this stuff at home... except for the baby doll parts... So guess what we spent the rest of the day looking for? Yep, baby dolls and baby doll parts... I think Candy bought 5 or 6 little baby dolls... all $3 each or less... So don't be surprised when you begin to see these little "Edward Scissor Hands" proto types showing up in Rock Candy...
We probably ventured into 100 little shops today... I always like this one, and I adore the sign on the front of their roof... Candy and I often find back issues of cottage and romantic design magazines here...
and today was no exception... I think Candy picked up a couple of issues of Romantic Home... I know what you're thinking... you're thinking "isn't that Candy just the cutest thing in her denim hat with the flowers"... yep... I think about 15-people stopped us to tell Candy how adorable she was... and she was... and is... (Dixie smiles to self).
Now this would be a good time to tell you that Candy is about to celebrate her 53rd birthday. Don't tell her I told you, but it's a week from tomorrow... October 11th. Remember, mums the word! "wink-wink"...
Before long, the rain came to Wimberley and cut our little junkin' trip short... good thing too... my old bones were rusting...

So what did I buy...? well, I guess you'll just have to stop by sometime next week and see.. Since I was the official photographer today, I couldn't buy and photo at the same time... now I'm off to sink my weary bones into the hot tub and relax... it's been a busy day down here in French Lique...

Pink Saturday... Pink Junkin' too...

While junkin' with Candy earlier in the week... I posted about this pretty little Fenton Sherbet that I found at Twice Blessed in San Marcos...

but of course... in the past couple of weeks... I've found a few other pink treasures... and I've been saving them to share with you at Miss Beverly's Pink Saturday... when you leave French Lique, visit Beverly for more Pink Saturday!

How about this cute little framed picture of a pretty pink shoe from Goodwill...

or this fabulous find... pretty pink wine glasses... after I got them home and washed them... I noticed there was a word embossed on the bottom of the glass... hummmm what's that say... why yes! it says... FRANCE! Now that's the kind of surprize I really like! Thank you Salvation Army Store!

and on a dusty bottom shelf at the Silver Center Thrift Shop in Seguin... I found this pretty plate (cabbage leaf design) and bowl... washed it... dried it... and then... Holy-smokey! Made in Italy! How sweet is that! Pink and Italian! Some sweet little junkin' finds... total bill... less than $10. (including the Fenton sherbet!) Pink from around the world... We got some mighty good junkin' places down here in French Lique!

Junkin Fever... but I think I'll live...

Yes, I have a real job... fortunately I'm on commission, so that leaves me with plenty of time to work in a little junkin' with my favorite junkin' buddy, Candy. I had a couple of appointments in San Marcos today, so I called Candy and we met at our favorite San Marcos thrift store, Twice Blessed.
Every time I'm with Candy, I get Junkin' fever... but it's a good thing!

and after some serious junkin'... we went here for lunch..

it's a church, built in 1901, and lovingly restored. Now, The Price Center, is a Tea Room...

After a brief tour by our hostess and guide, Marilyn, we sat down by french doors to dine on delicious strawberry lemonade... gosh it was refreshing! (it was 100-degrees in south Texas today!)

and this delicious plate lunch of chicken salad, fresh veggies, fruit, crackers and banana bread... oh.. and we had a slice of lemon meringue pie too, but I forgot to take a photo before we ate it all gone! Just take my word for it... the slice of pie was as beautiful, as it was delicious!

and now... the treasures...
this is a little vintage Fenton sherbet... I love the colors! ($4.95)

and two glass (crystal?) candle sticks... $1.78...

Candy and I parted after lunch... me to appointments, she... more junkin' in Kyle, Texas...
but on my way home... I drove by Beverly's Glory B's and saw this...
a tea cart that perfectly matches my newly painted porch furniture... I don't have to do a thing... $29!

and this.. an ornate but rustic lawn chair... which I have big plans for...

isn't it fabulous! and yes, with the help of Beverly and Renee (Renee's part of
Glory B's is featured in my header photo... yes, she's the violin case lady
), I was able to fit both pieces into my little sports car... don't ask me how we did it... but we did it!

Then the coolest thing happened... Beverly told me that she has had so many people come in to her little shop mentioning they had read about her on my blog. She said she has been so busy, she just couldn't believe it! She gave me a great big hug and said "Thank you so much Dixie!... we really appreciate it!"

Well Glory Be! Ya just never know who's reading your blog down here in French Lique!

Blue Monday... More Junkin' in Geronimo!

Please visit Miss Smiling Sally's Blog for more Blue Monday... this Monday and every Monday! Thanks Sally... now hosting from Tampa, Florida...
Sally, thanks for being such a gracious hostess, and inviting us all in to view all things Blue...

I love this little blue chair I found while junkin' with Candy last week in Geronimo... It's been callin' my name... it's saying... "Dixie... Romeo would love to have this little chair sittin' on the front porch just for him..."
I'll be back in the area this week... it's possible this little blue chair is going to find a new home...

down here in French Lique...

Junkin' in Geronimo with Candy... part 2...

I love Junkin' with Candy... Here are the treasures (one woman's trash....) that I bought yesterday... and a hint, here and there, of what they are to become...

a pretty ceiling medallion ($2.99)... the color... Terry loved! But Dixie... not so much... I'll be painting this one a pretty creamy white before mounting on the ceiling in the guestroom... sounds like a future Met Monday post to me... in fact... I think we have a few of them here...
an "enamel basin"... also known as a "dish pan" here in Texas... $16 but with the 25% off... $12! This has a destiny... it will become a fountain on the front porch... glass bowl? nope... a vintage light fixture globe (a bargain at $8.99)... Candy talked me into this one... it is to become a feeder for the birds... hanging from a tree... I can hardly wait to see how it turns out!

a giant basket for carrying dishes to the porch... $4... Glory Be!

shakers... vintage reproductions... but only $6.99... they both sport an "S" on the tops... but they fit in nicely with my vintage depression glass...

a wonderful vintage wind up alarm clock... that actually keeps time... and it found a place on the book shelves in my office... fantastic at $4.50...

and Candy wasn't the only one that found a shabby and chippy birdcage at Glory B's Cottage... I love this one and it fits perfectly on the porch... $20... talked her down from $25... I don't know what I'll do with it... but I like it...

and last but not least... a pretty pink vintage tablecloth for the porch... $15 but 50% off... so only $7.50... oh my gosh... I loved this one...

Well, that's it... enough excitement for one day! Now, there are chores to do and clothes to wash... much to do down here in French Lique...
