Silver Sunday... Thrifty Finds and Simple Pleasures...

My thrifty silver find (thank you Goodwill) is this pretty carafe... I just love the elegance of the pretty glass and silver combination...

She was in pretty good shape.. just a little tarnished and dirty...

but what beautiful bones..

and fabulous design...

So of course... I made her sparkling clean...

and shiny...

and put her for sale in my booth...
Then there are these... tarnished with age...
Baby cups... one with an embossed duck.. the other engraved with the initial "D"... for Dixie? Maybe Debbie or David... or even Dexter... So right now... I've decided to leave them as found... tarnished but loved...

and then there were this sweet pair... I'm also leaving tarnished for the time being... I think it brings out the detail... A Santa and A Christmas Tree... S&P... I'm already dreaming of Christmas Tablescapes 2010... aren't they just the sweetest pair?

I'm joining sweet Beth for Silver Sunday again this week... If you love silver and want to see more... visit Beth at Gypsy Fish Journal... the participants are on her sidebar... you'll love what you see...
we'll be missing you Silver Sundays... down here in French Lique...

here's the "Before"...

good bones...

fabulous feet... and beautiful tray...

and the "After"...

gleaming...

sparkling...

loved and cared for...

A shiny new life for a neglected old girl...

Silver Sunday... strolling around Blue Hills Antique Mall in Geronimo!

I'm joining sweet Beth for Silver Sunday again this week... If you love silver and want to see more... visit Beth at Gypsy Fish Journal... the participants are on her sidebar... you'll love what you see...

Here are some of the Silver for sale in my booth at Blue Hills Antique Mall in Geronimo, Texas. I'm moving my booth from the back to the front next week, so I'm having a 50% off Moving Up! Sale... this week.

So if you happen to be near Geronimo sometime this week... drop by and see! I wandered around Blue Hills with Candy last week, taking some silver photos...I love this Silver Basket...only $10... and a pretty crystal and Silver Cruet set...and that last shiny Silver thing... it's a server for Caviar! The bowl is filled with crushed ice and the crystal glasses filled with Caviar... everybody needs one of these... don't they?

and there are teapots and coffee pots galore... but all a little pricey for me... ranging from $35 to $65... but I'm sure worth every penny!

and then there's this... okay... it's not SILVER... but it is silver...

my new Cannon Digital Camera (I dropped my pink Sony camera, and now it has trouble with close-ups!)... Have a gloriously Silver Sunday...
Many Blessings from down here in French Lique...

Before and After...Silver Sunday Favorites

Today I'm combining Silver Sunday with Sunday Favorites (thank you Beth and Chari for hosting! Chari I noticed you're doing the same thing.. feel free to steal my new Meme Mosaic!) and revisiting a tablescape from
New Year 2009... A friend was reading some of my old posts and brought this one to my attention... she was most interested in the "Mercury Glass Christmas Tree"... (no Liz.. you can't HAVE it.. but you can BORROW it anytime!)
So here ya go... Revisiting Liz's favorite tablescape post... full of Silver Sunday...

SILVER SUNDAY FAVORITES

the original post...

I use this table cloth everyday... it was my grandmothers and is a little tattered in places, but, I love it and I think it's very romantic...
The place mats double as chargers with a vintage crystal Anchor dinner plate and a Fire King opal white with platinum rim salad plate... I also like to put freshly ground sea salt in the little individual vintage "salts"(lower center of picture below). See my little "LOVE letters"?
I decided to use vintage Wilendur Pink Dogwood napkins and silver napkin rings... I think the gray shadows in the napkins look nice with the silver and platinum accents...
and decorate with my newly found mercury glass candle holders, bowl & balls, and tree...Bling-Bling...

and now here... with the candles lit and the lights turned low... maybe Ricky will like it better when I get my apron on... Ha! we'll see... Getting ready for a romantic dinner with my sweet hubby (who really is romantic... most of the time)... down here in French Lique...

Silver Sunday... Thrifty Silver Finds...

I'm joining sweet Beth for Silver Sunday again this week... If you love silver and want to see more... visit Beth at Gypsy Fish Journal... the participants are on her sidebar... you'll love what you see...

As those of you who read my blog with any regularity know, I love to thrift shop... and one of my favorite thrifting buddies is Candy at Rock Candy... A few months ago Candy and I made our last trip to Wimberley Market Days for 2009... and that's where I came upon these...
A pretty set of candlesticks... the pair for $5... I couldn't pass them up! So, I brought them hope and will some silver polish and a little elbow grease...

Yep... they turned into these... a beautiful pair of SILVER candle holders... I knew they were quite heavy... but who could have known?!

I've seen other similar candlesticks...

but I haven't found any...

that I like better, or for a better price...

They adorned my Christmas table... and are sitting there still...
Then last week, after seeing all the pretty silver S&P's on the 1st Silver Sunday, I ran across this pretty pair at Beverly's Glory B's Cottage in Geronimo... (only $7)
though they were tarnished...
but I took care of that without delay... (sorry all you "love the tarnish" gals... I just have to polish...)

They have a simple little scrolling decoration around the tops...

and I think they are just perfect sitting next to my bargain candle holders...

Here they are... about the cost of a lunch at Chili's... A pretty shiny reminder of two of my favorite thrifting places and two of my favorite thrifting people...

Silver Sunday... Mother's Silver

Joining in the first Silver Sunday at the Gypsy Fish Journal hosted by the fabulous Betty... Jump over to visit Betty and check out the list on her sidebar for other participants... perhaps you'll join in yourself!

In November, my sister decided to send me my half of Mother's Silver. Sister doesn't use silver... she's a more practical kinda girl... but I made her keep half because of the sentiment... That's the kinda girl I am...

It came a little tarnished... not having been used in many years... Mother lived in a nursing home the last year of her life and passed away in February of 2007. Sister has been trying to get me to take the silver ever since...

So, as I do with all my silver... I polished away... and as I did... I began to feel the love for this precious gift grow within my heart...

The silver was marked Reed & Barton... but I didn't know what the pattern was... Thankfully, my blogging friend Mimi at In the Middle of Nowhere, did. This is a 1954 Reed & Barton pattern... Classic Rose... and this was my mother's wedding silver...

Then, as it should be, I used Mother's silver on New Year's Day for a simple meal of Black-Eyed Peas, Pork and Potatoes...

and perhaps, Mother was looking down and smiling on us...

Happy New Year to one and all... and Happy 1st Silver Sunday...
