"I Do's" and they did... plus... Candy's new BFF...

Friday was a work day... We arrived at Candy's Ranchette about 10 am, after a hardy breakfast together on the Wimberley Square... and Candy put my Ricky to work on wiring her plank "I Do" sign together...

Then Candy invited her new BFF, Ricky, to the side porch for more wire work... wiring together her tower of rusty pails for plant display...

I love these... the photo doesn't do the idea justice...

We were decorating for the rehersal dinner, to be held at Old Glory Ranch Friday evening... Candy, Ricky and I hung a frame on the old hitchin' post for photo opps... Ricky and I gave it a test run... icky and sweaty... he loved me anyway...
I love this "Tomorrow I Do" banner Candy made from burlap and linen... and hung from the fireplace at Old Glory Ranch...

Candy's (painting) & Ricky's (wiring) sign...
hung from the rafters and draped with gauzy cloth...
We thought the drape across the bench looked like where
the bride's wedding dress might have ended up...

"If you're asking if I love you... the answer is... I Do!"
and me and Ricky... we cleaned up pretty good...
and had a wonderful time getting ready to send the young couple off...
into marital bliss... just like...

ps... I know Candy will share some wonderful photos with you soon... as soon as she recovers for the past 6-months of wedding planning and executing...

I've got a brand new pair of rollerskates... who's got the key?

When my dear Ricky was a boy, his family didn't have lots of money. They were country folk (still are), and they were frugal. Dad worked in a brewery in San Antonio; Mom stayed home with the 6 children and ran the farm... There wasn't a lot of time for goofing off and playing...
The older boys, Ricky was second oldest, spent most of their free time in the fields...

But there was lots of love, and sometimes.... time to play... which brings me to my favorite "Ricky's Childhood" story, as told to me by me sweet husband... and verified by his older brother...

The Christmas Skates

Early 1960's, Ricky and his brother received a joint Christmas gift.  A pair of silver roller skates.  They were, of course, meant to be shared... so share they did...

Ricky took the left skate... his brother took the right ... and so...
and of course I had to bring these home from the booth of two of my favorite boys...
The Curious Boys of Seguin, Texas... Thanks Boys!
neither learned to skate on two skates... each learned to skate on just one...

Welcome to my world...

Cool Shadows at Carolyn Westbrook Home, Zapp Hall

I was looking through my photos taken earlier this month at Zapp Hall, and ran across this one. Taken at Carolyn Westbrook's booth, this chair simply called to me... I loved the crisp greens Carolyn was showing... and the fluffy cushions were perfect combined with the vintage iron chair painted bright green... and don't you love that paisley pillow!

Blog Party at Zapp Hall....

Many gathered for Theresa Cano's Bi-Annual Blog Party at Zapp Hall... The theme... wear your crown...
some came crowned and adorned... and some... not so much...
Theresa and Candy were all dolled up...
Candy and Dixie (that's me!) celebrated in tattered vintage style...
at our favorite site this year... Rodeo Royalty Road Show's Indian Summer Tepee...
Bedazzled Cowgirl hats were all the rage!...
Old friends got a chance to mingle...
and meander amongst the junk treasures...
Candy met with the queen... Rodeo Royalty queen that is...
and yes folks... she was the winner... all decked out from head to toe...
rusty spring crown adorned with beads and bangles...
and wearing a much sought after lace tablecloth robe...
don't you just love this rusty adornment!
all tied up with ribbons and bows...
and Theresa's crowning glory... which was my personal favorite...
Thank you Theresa for being the best Hostess ever...
at our favorite party of the season...
so... until next fall...

our adventure over...
it's back to the real work-a-day world...
leather briefcases and low heel pumps...

Whites from Round Top/Warrenton Texas... for White Wednesday...

I love the literalness of this dealer sign... I mean... it is... isn't it?
At Zapp Hall in Warrenton Texas, there's all kinds of "Stuff" for the pickin'...
A lot of it... pretty and white... perfect for White Wednesday...
and most of it.... yep... you guessed it...
Literally...
I love the birds nests... nesting in this chippy white hutch...
and these two shadow boxes, literally stuffed full of "Stuff"...
This beautiful vintage gown.... now faded to a creamy white...
These white baseball cuff bracelets made a big splash at Theresa Cano's blog party... and while I argued with myself as to whether or not I was going to pay $45 for one...
I came back empty cuffed...
This crested lion once welcomed visitors at some grand entrance I'm sure...
but a little too grand for the Farm House in French Lique...
after a long hard day of junkin' shoppin'...
Candy and I settled down here...
Into these wonderful white porch rockers...
rocking our way into the quite of the evening... surrounded by
our wonderful chippy white memories...

singing... "I don't want nobody.... no-body.... no...."

Both the Curious Boys and Barn Chic Antiques have blogged this week about all the body parts for sale in Warrenton/Round Top this spring...
could we say... tub-loads of them...
Candy couldn't resist doing some "pickin' "...
$5 per leg... $5 per torso... $10 for 2-legs and a torso... such bargains!!
she piled them up... 1-2-3...
"so what are you lookin' at Dixie?"...
Gosh Candy... I can't imagine!
some junkers really get into their pickin' don't they!
some of the parts were just plain old creepy...
some awe-inspiring...
some moving... full of emotion of their own...
and some... well... some were just plain old Curious... "wink-wink"...
back from our adventure for this spring...
and lots more treasure to show you soon...
once I get unpacked

Cooking in a Jewel Box... almost....

Little by little... piece by piece... the kitchen renovation is coming together...

No back splash yet... but soon...
I had the painters paint the inside of the glass door cabinets the same green as the lower cabinets... this is probably the closest to the actual colors...
and the cabinet maker arrived to re-level the cabinet doors and install the glass...
and he had me tape a sign to the door glass so Ricky didn't accidentally open them before the caulking was dry... and for good measure... I tied a bow around the handles.. just to insure that no midnight accidents could occur...

Next up... back splash...
I'm cooking in a jewel box...

ps... I ran into the fabulous Curious Boys, Joe and Glenn, at their booth today... they are such sweethearts... hugs all around and chatting about fabulous finds in Warrenton...  Drop by and visit their blog if you can.  They've posted a bunch of great photos taken on their recent visit... Candy and I can hardly wait to go ourselves this weekend!

Kitchen Reno Teaser....

Country Farmhouse Kitchen... circa 1975... for years I've wanted to get rid of that ceiling hanging cabinet above the breakfast bar... which blocks the view to the dining area...
and get new cabinet doors... bead board cottage style... a pair with glass...
and a built in dishwasher instead of the portable...
and vintage ceiling light fixture instead of the industrial fluorescent..
and quartz counter tops instead of harvest gold laminate...
breakfast bar cabinet... gone...
(note : we had our cabinet maker build a new wall cabinet above the new built-in dishwasher,
to partially replace the lost storage from the one above the bar)
old warped cabinet doors... gone...
portable dishwasher... gone...
florescent lighting... gone...
(found the pretty country vintage fixture on eBay and only paid $35 including shipping!)
harvest gold laminate... gone...
(everything "removed" from the kitchen is finding a new home with Habitat for Humanity)
we opted for man-made recycled quartz counter tops... and I compromised on the farmhouse sink... Ricky wanted the deep sinks that are seamless with the counter tops... and I have to admit... I love them!  and the beautiful new bridge faucet is to die for!
and now... the painters are here... doing their magic...
This is just the primer...
and that's the tease...
Come back soon to see the grand finale!

I can hardly wait for my finished kitchen redo to emerge...

Got My Goose at Glory B's Cottage...

I had to travel to Austin for business on Thursday this week... and on my way back, I had to go through Geronimo, Texas... and of course I had to stop and visit my friend Beverly at Glory B's Cottage... She was on a little vacation for the past week... so when I got there, her sweet little cottage was overflowing with shabby chic and tattered beauty...

If you live in Texas and you haven't had a chance to stop by... You just don't know what you are missing...
So... while I was there... I picked up a few items... and this one is my favorite...
a primitive goose...
she just called my name...
Beverly thought she had charged too much,  I thought I got a great deal...
what do you think... ?  Isn't she just divine?
She'll find a place on top of the bookcases in my office...
once I finish my office organization later this month...
until then...
we'll just let her hang around in the living room...
