Butterflies Are Free...

I've been trying, for a week, to get a good photo of the butterflies migrating to Mexico via south Texas... It's hard to show you what a butterfly migration looks like and feels like. Since I've been unsuccessful at my photography venture, I'll show you this...

This map shows the migration north and south of the Monarch Butterfly... and there ya go... right through south Texas and back...

and this is one photographers view, not mine, because I don't have the kind of camera it takes to get a photo like this...

There are literally millions of butterflies of all species that take this route... but how does it feel? It feels like Oz... when I walk outside butterflies are everywhere: in the trees, on the sidewalks, in the grass... and when you walk, they flutter around you... all around you. Butterflies land on your clothes, your face, your hair... It makes you feel like you're in a fantasy, and I love it.

I wish I could share the butterfly fantasy with you... down here in French Lique...

I was in awe the other day as I watched them dance around my yard. If someone passed by my place and saw me, they probably wondered why I looked like I was in a trance, but I was with watching them.

Talk about butterfly kisses! I don't think they have ever passed through here...or at least I would hate to think I missed 'em. I'm trying to imagine what it would be like to be covered in butterflies...amazing!

Having visited the butterfly habitat at the University of Florida, I can somewhat imagine what you're experiencing. Must be beautiful.

How lucky you are to have so many! If I see one or two I'm excited. Looks like Oz to me. Mumzie :O

My bushes are just about to bloom any day now and there will be some major eating for the long trip ahead.
I will post if I get some good shots. But pictures just can't capture the wonderful event of the monarch march.
Hoping things work for M.D. but I sure understand so we'll just wait and see. Still planning a Geronimo trip on Friday with Terry.
Isn't this weather glorious? I have been working/playing in the yard all day.
Hope your week is running smoothly.

That would be a sight to see Dixie! I do hope that you have captured some of it on video! According to your map they bypass West Virginia! Sigh.... I would love to see something like that and I'm sure my kids would enjoy it also!

We are currently being invaded by the Asian Lady Bugs! Yuck!!! Can't stand that orange, stinking, biting bugs! I just tried to get a picture of them for the blog. They are hard to take a picture of too! I don't like it when they land on me!

The way you described the butterflies reminded me of the movie Spiderwick when those Sprites.

Hugs,
Angela

Hi Dixie! I saw a butterfly migration when I was in Florida year before last! All day long for several days, masses of them were streaming over the beach as far as the eye could see...amazing!! I looked for them last year, but I seem to have timed it correctly only that one year. I was in awe!! The little guys all seem to know right where they are going and nothing was stopping them! I'll be heading that way again soon. I wonder if I'll see them again? Happy week!...Debbie

Here's where we part, Dixie! I'm terrified of butterflies, and I'm afraid that I'd stay indoors if I lived where you do. When I was 13, I had a cousin who tormented me by putting butterflies down my blouse. Eww.

Dixie, I saw the monarch's migrating one year up here in OK, it was right before a cold front. They were from ground level up to so high in the sky I couldn't believe they flew so high. Glad they made it down there with all the rain we've had.

How lovely, it must feel awesome to be a part of that. So much more intriguing than those darn Asian beetles that are swarming here in the corn.

OK, so no visit to French Lique in October, evidently. Believe it or not, I am deathly afraid of butterflies (and moths). Weird, I know! But it is what it is!
