This post is the Epilogue for French Lique, Texas blog. Over the past 3-months, as most of you know, I've been recuperating from knee replacement surgery. Those 3-months have given me lots of time to reflect and evaluate... the consequence of which is the end of French Lique.
It has been interesting and fun, most of the time, to blog here. I've made some real friends, inspired a few people and made a few people uneasy. I've shared dreams, thoughts, events and a lot of photos of treasured objects. I've enjoyed my stay, but it is time to go.
So here... the Epilogue...
French Lique is a fictional place. In a novel by Laura Lippman, her characters were traveling through French Lick, Indiana... I fell in love with the town's name and decided to name my fictional place in honor of French Lick... with my own spin... French Lique... "Lique" is not a real word, French or otherwise.
You can find the real me by google-ing Saint Hedwig, Texas... population 1875. I really do live in a small town out in the country on about 7-acres of land. I really do have a big front and back porch on a 40-year old ranch house.
I really am married to Ricky. We really do have 6 grown up children all of whom live in Texas..... and we really do have two white toy poodles named Precious and Roxy.
Ricky is Polish through and through... and I'm French and Irish... both of us Roman Catholic. Our heritages and religious beliefs color my thoughts and posts here in French Lique.
I do have 3 wonderful grandchildren, but their names aren't really Panda, Romeo and Little Einstein...though the nicknames describe them well.
Ricky will retire in 2012, and I will retire 3-years after that. We plan to spend our hot south Texas summers traveling, camper in tow, throughout the USA. There are so many places we haven't seen. We hope to spend our retirement visiting all those wonderful places.
Saying "good-bye" to French Lique is sad but sweet... I've given it lots of thought. I have other things to do now, and need to put my energy and time elsewhere.
"Some of us think holding on makes us strong; but sometimes it is letting go." - Herman Hesse
So from me to you..it's been fun... it's been a good ride... it's time to let go... for the final adieu... and a last good-bye from
All I can say right now is I'm going to miss you. I'll be back later after I get through with my ugly cry.

ReplyDeleteI can't even begin to tell you how sad I am to hear this.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw "French Lique" in my follow list, I knew it was a worthy click.
I will miss you and Ricky and all your cowgirl "stuff" more than I can say.
Sad day.
Sad face. :-(
Dixie, I've really enjoyed getting to know you better through your posts, but so understand. I wish you well on your next adventure in life.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to see you go, but sometimes life comes first. I could use a few new readers...send all those followers my way! Have a wonderful life...

I've enjoyed meeting you through blogland. I hope you will come back and share all your new adventures with us. Good luck and happy travels. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteHey Dixie!
ReplyDeleteI wish you the best of things to come in the future! It was nice getting to know you through blogland. I had no idea that French Lique wasn't really a town! lol I hope that you had a bountiful garden this year full of that globe zucchini that wouldn't grow in West Virginia!
If you ever travel through West Virginia look me up. I'm the unofficial guide of all of the things to see in West Virginia you know! hehehe
Hugs,
Angela
Good for you, to make a choice for the "real world"~ you know what is right for you. I will miss you too. I always love visiting here, you are full of wit, humor and fun. Girl, I wish you and Ricky the best, and happy trails.

Best of luck to you, in whatever road you chose next. You did such a great job of blogging, I'm sure you will be a success at whatever you chose. Come back again and visit sometime. Sandi
ReplyDeleteDixie, I hope you are doing well in your recovery.
ReplyDeleteI will miss you!!!!!!!!!!! :-(
Sending you and yours blessings and peace
Dearest Dixie-
ReplyDeleteYou have always blazed the trail that many of us were thinking about but hadn't quite put it into play.
You are the best.
All my husband (John) and I want is a pop up and places to go.
Your retirement sounds amazing.
Laura
Thank you Dixie, for all the inspiration! I know we're all sad to hear French Lique is coming to and end. I hope you enjoy your travels and check in with the blogs once in awhile so we can hear how you're doing.
ReplyDeleteBest Wishes!
Dawn
AH....shucks, Dixie!!! I HATE this. You are one of my favorite bloggers.....I am gonna miss you so much!!! I've already missed you during these last few months as you have dealt with your surgery.
ReplyDeleteYou are such a fun and sweet blogger. HOWEVER, I DO understand where you are coming from. Blogging does take lots of time and energy. I don't do it well these days, cuz I found out I was spending too much time in cyperspace and not enough time in my own real world. However, for now, I hope to be able to blend the two.
I do hope you'll have time to check in once in a while!! Best wishes to YOU!!!! L, Dana
PS Dang it!!! Now I REALLY wish, even more, that we could have met when I came to Canton over Easter!
Oh Dixie ~ it has been a while since I have visited and the day I come by to say hello, you are saying goodbye :( I too have had other things in my life that keep me away from my blog and I have been throwing the thought around of also saying goodbye to blogland. I just can't find the time to post and visit and it bothers me (you know, the Catholic girl guilt thing).
ReplyDeleteYou will be missed terribly by so many!! Here is to a wonderful future, especially when you and Ricky finally retire and travel. It sounds so dreamy!!
Wishing you happiness and good health always! xo
All the best Dixie. French Lique is the best blog name around and your blog was too. I won't be sad but happy for you. Onward and upward.
ReplyDeleteOh no, I had to read this twice! Sorry to see you go, but happy that you are moving on to other great places!
ReplyDeleteWill miss you Dixie!
Nancy
Well Dixie, Thank Goodness I came here today, just in time to say goodbye. I understand, I am still trying to decide what I want to do.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we will see you in Wimberly sometime. Sharon is still having some problems.
I wish you great things and hope the road ahead is smooth and easy.
Email me when you are headed to Wimberly.
Barbara
I know that I can just click my heals three times while saying French Lique, French Lique, French Lique and think of you.
ReplyDeleteWe will continue to pal around whenever we can get our paths to cross. I'm looking forward to my friends to be healed and ready to go.
Your wit and wisdom will be missed but one thing you've taught us...COWGIRL UP!
Love from one of your blogland blessings...real friendship ;-)
Oh Miss Dixie! Say it isn't so! We will all miss you, but understand. Blogging is very time consuming and I have had to cut way back myself as more grandchildren arrive! Please say you'll pop in occasionally and keep us posted on how you are doing! Hugs to you, my friend...Debbie
ReplyDeleteI absolutely will continue to read my favorite bloggers... whenever time allows!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am in and out of blogging and blog reading, I shall miss you and getting my St. Hedwig fix.
ReplyDeleteLucy
Lucy... anytime you need a St.Hedwig fix... you just shoot me an email... hope to meet you in person one day. hugs. Dixie
ReplyDeleteGood-by & good luck! Have fun with your new adventures!
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that you will be missed.... However, I completely understand when that little voice in your head tells you it is time to move on. I enjoyed peeking into life at "French Lique."
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your adventures to come!
Deb
I've slowed my blogging down to one day a week. I know how it sucks up our lives. So, I think I understand you waving "good-bye," but I'll miss you.
ReplyDeleteWe're going to miss you Dixie. Back when you hosted Wordless Wednesday, it was the first Meme I participated in. Heck, I had never even heard the term "meme" at the time. Know you'll find lots of other wonderful things to fill your days.
ReplyDeleteWell as usual I'm a day late and a dollar short, as my Momma would say.
ReplyDeleteI have also been playing with the thought of retiring my blog. Even though I'm already retired it still takes up so much of my time. So I completely understand how you feel.
LOL, I couldn't help but laugh when I read how you planned to travel upon retirement, so did we we even bought a travel and did do some traveling, we visited some places we had dreamed about all our lives, but now adays we are always traveling but it's to the Drs office and back...lol..old age ain't for sissies.
I will truly miss you Dixie and hope to get to see you one day. Take care and know that I so enjoyed your blog and all your post.
Molly
Dear Dixie....
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to see you leave... You were one of the very first chickies I connected with in Bloggyville..... I haven't been over visiting much and for that I feel bad.... I've been so busy re-doing the house since February that I have had trouble keeping up....
You will be missed..... I enjoyed getting to know you.
I wish you the best in your new adventure.
Huggies,
Spencer
just found out your gone...enjoyed your blog Dixie...now you enjoy your life.....you are a great Texas Gal...
ReplyDeleteDixie, I haven't been able to bring myself to read this post, but I finally put on my big girl panties and did so. OH, how I wish that things were different, but I truly do understand the need to follow the path set before you. I, however, will miss you, sweet pea! And I want you to know that I appreciate your blog friendship and will cherish all the wonderful gifts you sent my way, but particularly the gift of your friendship.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you will be completely healed of the knee issues and that life will always treat you well. Please don't be a stranger, and if you want to come back to us, please don't hesitate! I'm keeping you on my list of blogs I follow.
In the mean time, I'm wishing you, "Happy Trails!"
XOXOXO,
Sheila :-)
