Precious, Farm Dog Poodle

We got Precious when she was 12-weeks old. Ricky never cared for "house dogs"... but this dog is different. She took up with Ricky, and he with her.
I bought her for me... you know, a nice little lap dog to sit with me while I read... but Precious had a different idea. She wanted to be "daddy's girl"... and she is. She sits in his office in the evenings while he plays on his computer. She sits by his feet in the living room while he watches TV... and when she makes a mess (which is fairly often) and gets in trouble with me... she runs and sits in Ricky's lap and peeks at me from under the newspaper he's usually reading. Precious belongs to Ricky.

Hi! I'm Precious... and this is what I usually look like... usually...

So tonight when we got home from church... Precious and Roxy were no where to be found... they normally meet us at the gate, jumping and greeting us with their happy faces... But tonight... we had to call them... and from behind the detached garage they came... Roxy looking pretty much like she normally looks... and Precious...

Well, I'm going to let Precious tell you in her own words... arf! arf!... (translated by me...)...

Hi Mom! Hi Dad! Home from church already?!

Me? Oh I haven't been doin' nothin' much... I was just behind the garage lookin' for somethin'...

No, really... I promise... there was a big mama possum back there, with some babies... Those babies are cute!

My feet? Oh, I was trying to dig them out from behind that pile of wood back there... it was Roxy's idea you know!

Okay.. it was my idea... but Roxy helped... she was suppose to be my lookout! She's not a very good look out though... She didn't tell me you were home!

Look... I'm a farm dog... right Dad! Farm dogs dig in stuff and get dirty... I can't help myself.. it's in my blood!

Am I in trouble? Am I going to have to sleep on the porch tonight?

Hey! Roxy! I'm not in trouble... come on... let's go get them possums! You can keep a look out... uh... watch me!

There's just no keepin' a good farm dog poodle down... down here in French (poodle) Lique..

How cute. I have a new grand dog that I haven't met yet. He will be visiting Mother's Day weekend. He's a golden doodle named Jeff.

Little dogs are usually the fiercest, right. That dog was busy working.

Oh Dixie, You have a beautiful baby. I can relate to your story.
I have few of my own about my two fur babies. You just gotta love them. Mine bring me so much joy that I quickly forget about the big messes they get into.
Hugs and a very blessed Sunday. ^j^

I love the photos .For my 11th birthday my Granny gave me one of her blue ribbon pure blood Poodle puppies.Well we lived in the country on a farm.
My parents made sure he became a house dog, painted toenails, and all.
Yet every chance this poodle got he ran off to the barn where the bird dog kennels were and participated in the training.
You 've never seen a sight until you see a poodle standing next to a bird dog with leg up ,nose high and tail pointed .Somehow poodles just don't look the same.
But he could out hunt all the other dogs hands down.My Dad would get so mad when people would come to pick up their hunters and see a poodle running about with a rabbit in his mouth or a bird of some kind.He would sneak out of the house every chance he got .Needless to say those toenails took a beating and his ribbons were rather droopy with a tangle of burrs.Thank you for the post it brought back many a happy memory.

Well Miss Dixie, you do know he is just doing what comes naturally don't you?
Poodles were bred to be retrievers or gun dogs, and can still be seen in that role. The breed's English name has German origins.(The name poodle comes from the German word short for pudelhund reflecting the breed's development from a water dog.
So they love to hunt. Mom used to work for a lady in Beaumont, TX. that raised & sold Poodles. Mom had one that I actually hated, Jock...he wouldn't let me get close to Mom, he'd grawl at me. The little snit....lol...
Hummm he looked alot like yours. but I don't hate yours...lol...he's so cute.

Bad Poodle, bad dog! LOL! Oh, she's too cute to stay mad at. I have a poodle too and she manages to find enough stuff to get into too. How can we blame them? It's their natural curiosity and "nosiness". lol!
Oh, btw. The paint is called Painter's Touch by Rustoleum and the color is "heirloom white" in the satin finish. I'm really loving it!
I've started another re-do on an old lamp. The shade had seen better days and the base itself is a nickel finish. It matches nothing in my home but for $2 (thrift store) I had to grab it up!
I hope you're enjoying your weekend! "Talk" to you soon!
Psst! Precious, try to stay out of trouble! Ear scratches coming your way little froodle poodle (that's what I call my poodle!)

What a great post Dixie. Little Precious is just adorable. Poodles are small (well the toys and miniatures anyway) but they have the heart of a lion. Miss Molly is correct, they were originally bred as hunting dogs - did you know that that is where that "ridiculous" show cut came from - the fur is left long over joints, etc to protect from cold water. Anyway, doesn't it seem that animal instinctively know who they have to "win over". I'm not surprised that Precious became Ricky's faithful companion. Fun post! Kathy

My oldest daughter had a little poodle who used to do the exact same thing! Just like a kid with their church clothes on. They seem to gravitate toward dirt! Oh but that sweet face...

If Precious is looking for a "boyfriend", have her check out my little Teddy ~ he is in a couple of my latest posts. These little dogs are just amazing aren't they? Teddy was a "rescue" and we got him @ 11 months. Just like Precious, he is a Daddy dog and goes to the office with him everyday. His favorite thing is to go on mountain hikes and show up the big dogs. Your little Precious is adorable and she sure looks like she had a good time!

you are SOOOO lucky! I love poodles, they are my fav. I have had a few in my lifetime and wish I had one now! I get really defensive when people say they don't like poodles...I pull out the "but did you know they are the smartest dog?!" card!!!

Candy said...

I would say she is quite clever, diggin' in the mud, paws a face but managed to keep her piggy tails clean. Who could be mad at such a cutie pie! Run to Daddy, he'll protect you.
Home from big D, traffic was absolutely terrible all the way. I guess EVERYONE is moving around before the gas goes up.
Glad to be home with Gene...

Oh my goodness can I relate! We have two standard poodles and it's absolutely impossible to keep them clean and groomed. I don't know why I ever thought I could keep them fluffy and clean living on a farm. We also have two Great Pyrenese, so the poodles,of course think, that they, too are Great Pyrenese....

I love her pics and her story. I've never seen a muddy poodle before, only pampered ones so this is a real treat.

Speaking of treats....give her one from me☺

Precious and Ricky have enjoyed all your comments! She is clean today... there was a nice wash tub of rain water in the yard today, which she decided would be a fine spring bath... and it was... Roxy, of course, stood on the side lines cheering Precious on!

Oh I just LOVE Precious and Roxy!!! I am quite partial to poodles since I also have two of them and so does my mom!

I LOVE the pictures. It looks like my Lucy when she has been squirrel chasing. One of her favorite activities!!! I agree it would be hard to keep a farm poodle clean...hehehe

I have a little white lap dog. Caesar is a Bichon Frise. He looks so pretty after he is groomed. Whenever he is running around in the yard after it rains, he can get pretty muddy. He loves to lay on our bed which has a white coverlet. Enough said???
