Goodness! It's Monday already! Time for Blue Monday, hosted graciously by Miss Smiling Sally! To visit Sally, and other bloggers of her Blue Monday, link to Sally's blog here...Today I thought I'd share a few things blue from my Tea Time closet... My maternal great-grandmother was Irish, and she enjoyed her tea. Every afternoon, my Grandma Odie and her sister-in-law, Aunt Doshie, would meet at Grandma's for tea. If my sister and I were visiting, Grandma Odie would call us in to wash our grubby little hands, put on aprons to hide the grime (and make us feel dressed up.. they were always frilly little aprons), and join her and Aunt Doshie for tea. I always felt so special sitting at my grandmother's pretty little table on the sun porch. Lots of lace, prisms, glass and of course, beautiful china. I still love afternoon tea, though I usually take it alone while reading a book or listening to music that my Ricky doesn't enjoy (opera or Debussy). Here's my little blue tea cozy, and two blue luster ware cups and saucers made in occupied Japan.
I purchased this pretty little embroidered velvet blue tea cozy at a gift shop in League City, Texas on the Texas coast south of Houston.
and for those not sure what a tea cozy is... here's what's hiding inside.. my favorite vintage Hall teapot!

Ummm, I love all the blues you shared today...and...just where is French Lique? I live in West Texas and have never heard of FL...must be in East Texas?

ReplyDeleteEffie. She had a sister named Ollie and one named Ozzie. My other grandmother's name was Icie. You don't hear those names anymore.

ReplyDeleteThat tea cozy is a silk ribbon design by Beverly Sheldrick of New Zealand. I have taken many silk ribbon embroidery and different sewing classes from her. Not sure if that is a kit she has sold, someone made and then sold again. Or if someone took the design and put it on a cozy that they made. Who knows, may have been made by Beverly herself. Many of her class samples get sold. Pretty nonetheless. Lovely post!

Oh Dixie I was so moved by your story about your grandmother having tea with you. That is such a sweet memory. Your tea cosy is beautiful, as is the teapot and the lovely tea cups. Such pretty things, especially the cups and saucers, but the tea cozy is gorgeous too. I use one my dear mother made me in the '80's - it doesn't match anything I have but I just can't let it go. It's precious!!

My folks lived there from 75-89...mom lives in Friendswood, one sister lives in Alvin and one in Clear Lake...might get back down next summer so I need to know where the shop is...that is just too funny! I remember when there was no shops like that except Davis Recycle Shop down on Wisconsin and Main...
