This morning I'm linking to Miss Mustard Seed's Furniture Feature Friday...and Cindy's Show & Tell Friday... drop by and see who else is joining in the fun!
My furniture, is outdoor furniture... I purchased this pair for $30 each at Twice Blessed Thrift Shoppe in San Marcos, Texas about a year ago... Twice Blessed is a thrift shoppe run by the Methodist Church in San Marcos and all proceeds go to charity... and they ALWAYS have really great stuff!
These girls were in my booth for about six months with a selling price of $100 for the pair... they never sold... so when I closed my booth in December, I brought them home and sat them out in the yard under a big oak tree until...
until our family cookout on Memorial Day in May... We needed more seating on the back porch where everyone seemed to end up that day...
So my nephew hauled the girls from the yard to the porch, where they have remained for the past month... The previous owner had painted them white.. but as the paint began to peel I realized their original color must have been a dark kelly green...
I adore the scrolls and twists of metal... Other than falling in love with the chairs, I really didn't know anything about them when I purchased them... and put zero effort into finding out anything about them... which is unusual for me... but...
I just knew I liked them and that was all that mattered... Isn't that armrest just gorgeous!
I've purchased some pretty aqua toile to make chair pads... this wire seat isn't overly comfortable...
this is the chair base under the seat... crusted with white paint... so I've already decided to take the white paint off... and then...
My Country Living magazine arrived just in time... and
I did the happy dance...
I did the happy dance...
Right there at the top of page 47 in the "What Is It" and "What's It's Worth" section...
My chair...
circa 1970's Peacock Chair...
circa 1970's Peacock Chair...
What it's worth... $375 for the pair... I paid $60 for the pair... SCORE!!!
(more happy dance now... )
Now my dilemma... should I take them back to the original green or..
should I paint them...
White
Cottage White
Apple Green
Ballet Pink
Hot Pink
or
Aqua
or
Aqua
Tell me what you think... I'd love to know...
Just enjoying the summer and living thrifty down here in French Lique...
Fabulous chairs. I think they would look good any color. You did good. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteIf those adorable chairs were at my house, I would paint them white or turquoise, but since they are at yours, what would look good with the rest of your colors on that porch? Any one of those color could be made to go with most things.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great price you paid and WOW who would believe they are really worth $375.00? They certainly are beautiful, though. I would love to find some like that one day.
Hugs, Cindy
I adore Mexican twisted iron sets and have actually sold quite a few. My best find was an umbrella that I foolishly sold. What was I thinking? I still have several pieces and mine are a mix of chipping white and black. I just clear coated 'em and put cushions on...'cause you're right. Not the most comfortable seat in the house or yard without a little something for the ol' situpon!

What a snag!!!! I am so impressed with your purchase and their real worth! OMG....aren't you thanking your lucky stars that they didn't sell in your booth?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that if you intend on selling them, maybe you should leave them just as they are. That peely, rusty look probably adds lots of value! :) However, if you're gonna keep them....paint those babies any of the colors you mentioned..just be sure you share the end result with us!!
Have a great weekend!

I think you should paint them a color that goes well with the out of doors, but then again, a color that makes you smile each time you go look at them.
ReplyDeleteYour surely DID SCORE! Oh my gosh! LOVE THEM!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday to you!

How gorgeous!! What fantastic finds- I think they are fabulous as they are but what ever color you paint them they will be wonderful! Stopping by from My Romantic Home today :)
ReplyDeleteI love the iron that came out of Mexico, I have had quite a bit of it and sole it in the 90s. The quality was always good.
ReplyDeleteThese are very fun
Have a great week
Blessings

Love your peacock chairs! You did score big on those--I think a lovely pale green would look pretty, but any color would be gorgeous showing off the metal-work of your chairs. I wouldn't want to sell them! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI love these chairs, they are wonderful. I agree with Marty, any color would look good.

The chairs are GORgeous! I'm surprised someone didn't snatch them up when you had them up for sale, but lucky you they didn't! I think an apple green would be gorgeous - maybe with some dark pink cushions? Can't wait to see what you do with them.
ReplyDeleteSuper DUPER score Dixie! LOVE them.... You're one lucky chickie... Hmmmm.... I love the white, but would love robin egg blue too.... Deee.lish.
