Mother's Silver

My sister sent me a little gift today. Half of our mother's silverware. When my mother passed away several years ago, she had very little to leave to her only two children. But then, we didn't expect anything... she didn't raise us, and we hardly knew her. So this gift from my sister comes to me because my sister wanted me to have it... and I will cherish it because it came from her...
The pattern is a Reed Barton pattern, but I don't know it's name... yet.

It is pretty, with roses and an unusual
curl at the base of the handles. Do YOU know this pattern?

Tarnished and uncared for....
Not surprising, all things considered...
down here in French Lique...

update! Thanks to Mimi at In the Middle of Nowhere, I have the pattern name:
Discontinued Pattern: CLASSIC ROSE (STERLING, 1954, MONOGRAMS) by REED & BARTON SILVER, Sterling Pattern #: 1954
My parents were married in 1954 and I was born in December of that same year. Now we know... this was my mother's bridal silver.

  1. Oh sweetie...
What a wonderful surprise to have this silver passed on to you. I think it is beautiful with the little curled edge on the ends. The roses are so entriquite on the handles. I love it. I don't know the pattern but it is beautiful. Thanks for sharing with me today.

    Country hugs, Sherry

  2. I love that your sister gave these to you. The curl in the handle is amazing. Nope. I don't know the pattern. I would leave them tarnished and throw them in something glass...a Mason jar for the primitive with the silver maybe. Enjoy! ~Mindy

  4. Maybe before, but I know they will be polished and tended to as only you can. Your sister is the treasure!
I'll see if I can find out anything on the pattern for you.

  5. Beautiful. The fact that you and your sister are keeping it is so touching
I find that families I deal with through wk usually just throw things out and not pass them down and I find that so sad.
    The pattern is lovely

  14. What a beautiful pattern and how special that your sister wanted to share it with you.

I have some silver and silver plate that was passed down from a great aunt. I think the reason I got it was because it is monogrammed with a "B". So I'm really glad that I went from a Walker to a Beaumont.

  15. Hey Dixie!

Such a lovely pattern! I just love roses. Makes you wonder who in your family may have purchased that pattern for your mother for her wedding shower? I don't think that my grand mother has any silver and I'm sure that my mother doesn't have any.

    Hugs,
    Angela

  18. Hello Dixie, the silverware is very pretty. Old fashioned floral patterns are my favorites. I'm sorry you didn't know your mother well. But I am glad that you have your sister and will cherish her gift.

I think I lost you when I moved my blogroll to a different page recently! I certainly didn't mean to delete you!

    Hope all is well.
