So, for your viewing pleasure this Friday... here are a few photos of things I see in French Lique... nearly every single day... They may not be purdy, but there's no drama required...
an old house on Pittman Road... I like to take the "long-cut" so I can drive by it when I go to the Post Office each week...
Fried Pork chops, Okra and Tomatoes from the garden... this is Ricky's favorite meal and I try to make it for him every week when the garden is in season...
Our neighbor across the road... raises these beautiful creatures... they are Charolais Cattle... pronounced around here "Char-lay"... but I imagine the French would frown upon that...
Well, Dear Dixie, you can put a lot into two posts.
ReplyDeleteFirst, how sad to lose two Hollywood icons on the same day!
It was heart wrenching enough to learn that Farrah had died after her struggle with cancer, but then to see the commotion of Micheal's rush to the hospital, news, news, news, then final release of his death....what a shame.
I envied Farrah's beauty and HAIR..however, it seemed her life may have been a rough one. Then, there was Michael. What an amazing talent. I was always taken by his music and dancing styles as a younger guy (pre-surgeries and whatever other odd stuff he did). How sad that his life drifted, too.
Well, then you added the news about our current dufus political folk...and it's all so sad.....BUT when you posted about your hummingbirds and neat old near by house and fried okra and Charolais Cattle (I studied about them in Ag and Life in college!)--gees, THAT'S what it's all about. Thank you for keeping up grounded----and pass some of that okra my way!!!!
L, Dana
PS Baby Bunny is doing well. I do believe her name will be Lacey--she has that sweet design on her--plus I already had a little fellow I referred to as Baby Bunny. He's about Lacey's size and he's been giving her the eye all night! Woo-hoo!! It's OK--he's harmless. :)
For a minute I thought you were saying Miss Charolais WAS your neighbor!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the sights around French Licque!!!
What a nice post to wake up to Dixie! I love Charolais, they are just beautiful cattle. And I LOVE that house! I tell you, it's gotten to the point where I almost won't watch the news anymore. I'd much rather go down to our little square and hear the days news from neighbors, but it's too dang hot! Kathy
ReplyDeleteIt HAS been a crazy week, hasn't it?! But thanks for giving us some simple pleasures of your beautiful community!:) Those hummingbirds ARE fast!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
Linda C
We have similar cattle near us. I always wondered what they were. We pass them everyday on the way to school and my daughter loves them.
ReplyDeleteI don't think our brains are wired for news 24/7. Thank goodness there are places like French Lique.
Have a quiet, cool, peaceful weekend. It's gonna be HOT here so we'll be in the pool or inside with the AC on.
Dawn
Hollywood people die just like we do. The important part comes AFTER death.... I'll leave it at that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cheering up; we all need this.
Sweet Dixie...thanks for the change of view!!! I would much rather see what you see than anything going on in this crazy world right now!!! I love being reminded of the simole pleasures in life...especially Texas life!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful post!!! Thank you!!!
Have a wonderful weekend!!!
XOXO
Cathy
My dad would love you forever if you made him that meal! :)

ReplyDeleteThanks for a leisurely trip back to Texas.
ReplyDeleteDixie,
ReplyDeleteIt was sad to hear about the deaths- I sooooo agree with the Obama- Yes, Lighten UP!!!!
and once again I am now staving after looking at your post
YUM YUM!
Have a great day Keep Cool :-}
What a fun site you have! I recognize your southern accent ‘cuz I have one, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteTaking the “long-cut”—I’ll have to remember that. They’re usually more interesting than the short-cuts.
Wish I had some of your pork chops and okra! Yummy!
mmmm-mmmmmmm! i want some of that okra and tomatoes!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNice post - I think I could enjoy life in French Lique just fine... I must admit that it's very nice to be able to hide out in your own simple world when the rest of it is going nuts!
ReplyDeleteNow - those tomatoes and fried okra... Is there anything better??? I could probably be just fine eating that with every meal, or heck - letting that be my meal everyday! Our tomatoes aren't quite ready yet, but getting close. We were late getting them in. As soon as they're ready I'm duplicating your meal!
Howdy Dixie
ReplyDeleteAmen sister !
I am so happy it's Friday .
Enough of the media brainwashing for one week.
I think I would just like to set outside and sip a cool glass of sweet tea and watch the birds for a little while .
Now if it would just dip below a 100 life would be fabulous :)
Happy Trails
Hugs
All good things to look at. I recently got a hummingbird feeder and have seen 2 h.b. I'm surprise you could get a photo at all. It's hot and humid here with more hot and humid tomorrow. :-) Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Loved this post, Dixie. It's been an interesting media week for sure, and I'm ready for some of the more simple things in life for sure. Hope you have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteGirl, I got a hankering now for fresh fried okra or boiled...I don't care as long as it fresh!
ReplyDeleteI clicked on and saw that little bugger working the feeder.
I'm going to try and lighten up...maybe after next month!
Debbie
OKRA!!!!
ReplyDeleteI cant wait for mine to bloom and turn into okra!
Last year we had so much we were giving it away! That's saying something since we both love it!
R.I.P. Ed, Farrah, and Michael.
Oh how I loved to watch Michael dance!
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI think you have a nice blog, beatiful photos and smart posts.Would you follow me, because I don't want to lost your blog.I’m wating your visit.
kisses
Dixie, you are just so cute! This was a great post, and some great photos. That pork chop, fried okra, and sliced tomato was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen!! Yep, if I find out what night of the week you're serving that dinner, I'll show up at your door just in time! laurie
ReplyDeleteDear Dixie,
ReplyDeleteyou preach it sister, you have the pulpit and I say amen and please pass the tomatoes and okra.
I think these stars dying are like what I like to compare to the bird world.......Farrah was a bluebird, so sweet and Michael was a cardinal.....I am just a sparrow but the bible states not one sparrow falls that the LORD does not know about it......we are all the same at the time of death...no money or worldly treasures or fame can buy a ticket that will return them. Farrah my heart breaks for because she fought cancer like my daughter is doing...she suffered terribly. We can't even pray to Jesus in school who gave us eternal salvation if we choose to accept it but Michael dies and they fly his body out in a sheriff helicopter to do an autopsy....yes, he was the king of pop but....that's all I am gonna say. I didn't vote for Barac but he is suppose to be the president of the USA, not a movie star that parades around like a.....that's all I'm gonna say
I love that house that you pass often....the minute I saw it, I started decorating it in my mind.......I love cows and chickens and roosters and goats and sheep and a cabana boy to keep my ice water full, my feet propped up while the hired hands do the work......yeah....that will be the day...the heat has destroyed my brain cells.
love and admire you
debbie
you always have the best way of looking at things.it was good to come see you today.

Amen Miss Dixie!! That is what is really needed...good ole common sense, the outdoors and pork chops, okra and tomatoes!!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos of what is really important and very soothing.

Hugs,
Lynn♥
