Goodbye Peonies... until next spring...

Can there be any wonder why the Peony is my favorite flower? Look at this magnificent thing... Yes, this is actually one of my mail order Peonies... I thought I'd take a few photos Thursday afternoon before they were gone... They were fading fast... I think this one is going to get an enlargement and a frame...

After about a week and a half... signs that the end was near, were evident...

so I set out to capture a few last images before it was too late...
because Friday morning... this is what I knew they'd look like... and they did.
mourning the passing of my beautiful Peonies...2009...
down here in French Lique...

  1. Dixie, we were married here in Texas and then went to Ohio where my husband lived, and his mother had a reception at their home for us and the whole house was full of peonies. They had zillions of them growing...I thought they were the biggest roses I'd ever seen! The memories linger, don't they? I love that you ordered them - great idea! Happy Pink Day...xoxo Nancy

  5. Hey Dixie!

Peonies are such a beautiful flower. Too bad they don't last very long. I have the dark pink ones and white ones. I used to take pictures of my daughter in front of them. She wouldn't stand for that now! lol

    Hugs,
    Angela

  8. Sorry Texas gals... the Peony needs a longer, colder winter than we can provide... we'll either have to move north (not an option for a Texan) or mail order them in... guess we'll continue to mail order...

  9. They were so beautiful. And what great pictures you took. I wonder if we appreciate flowers more because they are only here for a little while and we know they will soon be gone?
    Blessings,

"we'll either have to move north (not an option for a Texan)"
O my this Texan just about passed out at the thought of movin the ranch :-O
Mail order would be the only option.
I have no flowers I have evergreen everywhere. Never could get the hang of how to keep flowers alive :-(

  17. Gorgeous! We're fortunate enough here in CO to grow them...and I have got to get one into the ground...my neighbors have a lovely one....and the colors...the blossoms are so heavy that the entire bush just falls to earth with them...and even the petals are lovely. Next weekend I hope to get my hanging baskets going finally...fuschias, ivy, petunias for the little one in the chair...I'm excited.

  19. Love the first picture. I think it would look great in a frame. A nice reminder of when you had these flowers and how much you enjoyed them.

  20. They are so dense and multi-layered, just amazing. But they did fade fast indeed.

  21. So sorry Dixie. But at least if you frame that gorgeous picture, you can have a peony all of the time! laurie

  24. Dixie,
I just love peonies, but it seems like no one around my area in Texas grows them...I really don't know much about them. I would love to try to plant some though. Hope all is well with you.
