Can there be any wonder why the Peony is my favorite flower? Look at this magnificent thing... Yes, this is actually one of my mail order Peonies... I thought I'd take a few photos Thursday afternoon before they were gone... They were fading fast... I think this one is going to get an enlargement and a frame...
After about a week and a half... signs that the end was near, were evident...
Dixie, we were married here in Texas and then went to Ohio where my husband lived, and his mother had a reception at their home for us and the whole house was full of peonies. They had zillions of them growing...I thought they were the biggest roses I'd ever seen! The memories linger, don't they? I love that you ordered them - great idea! Happy Pink Day...xoxo Nancy
ReplyDeletepoor gal...
ReplyDeletei wish they could last forever for you~but then perhaps they would not be loved so much....
ah,
memories....
Oh Dixie
ReplyDeleteI am so sad to see them go :(
They are truly beautiful.
I do hope you get a chance to frame one of the photographs .
I am so glad you shared their beauty with us here in blogland.
We will all be sad with you ,but the good news Spring will be here again as quick as a wink.
Blessings to you sweetie .
Hugs
Miss Dixie-
ReplyDeleteI need details-
Would they dare grow down here (the border)?
Laura (envying your peonies)
Hey Dixie!
ReplyDeletePeonies are such a beautiful flower. Too bad they don't last very long. I have the dark pink ones and white ones. I used to take pictures of my daughter in front of them. She wouldn't stand for that now! lol
Hugs,
Angela
It is always so sad to see them go. They are so beautiful and smell sooooooooo good .
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Too bad they don't last longer. That first picture is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSorry Texas gals... the Peony needs a longer, colder winter than we can provide... we'll either have to move north (not an option for a Texan) or mail order them in... guess we'll continue to mail order...
ReplyDeleteThey were so beautiful. And what great pictures you took. I wonder if we appreciate flowers more because they are only here for a little while and we know they will soon be gone?
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Charlotte
Aw geez, that's sad. They were beautiful while they lasted!
ReplyDeletemacey
Dixie, sorry about your flowers they were gorgeous.

O my this Texan just about passed out at the thought of movin the ranch :-O
Mail order would be the only option.
I have no flowers I have evergreen everywhere. Never could get the hang of how to keep flowers alive :-(
So Pretty in pink*!!! I hope you are having a wonderful weekendI!

Oh Dixie.....
ReplyDeleteI shouldn't have laughed, but I'm so sorry, I DID....that last picture just looked so pitiful. I'm so sorry you're past your Peony Season....down there in French Lique....
Sympathy hugs,
Spence
It's sad when your pretties start to wilt. They sure were beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou took some great shots of them.

Hi Dixie, so sad to see them go, they really are so beautiful, one of my favs. Your pink post is so lovely. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeletedebby
What a shame to see such beauty go.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! We're fortunate enough here in CO to grow them...and I have got to get one into the ground...my neighbors have a lovely one....and the colors...the blossoms are so heavy that the entire bush just falls to earth with them...and even the petals are lovely. Next weekend I hope to get my hanging baskets going finally...fuschias, ivy, petunias for the little one in the chair...I'm excited.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to see my Peonies bloom today. They just popped! I'm sorry to see yours are done. I just read that you ordered them... interesting. I wish I could send you some of mine.
ReplyDeleteThey are my favorite and yours were beautiful Dixie.
Happy PS
Love Claudie

Love the first picture. I think it would look great in a frame. A nice reminder of when you had these flowers and how much you enjoyed them.
ReplyDeleteThey are so dense and multi-layered, just amazing. But they did fade fast indeed.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry Dixie. But at least if you frame that gorgeous picture, you can have a peony all of the time! laurie
ReplyDeleteDear Dixie,
ReplyDeleteThe Peony you are going to frame is worthy to be framed...so very beautiful. I would love to have a copy of that. the picture will carry you through.
I am sad for you they are just about gone....I know it is just a flower but they are so beautiful to have around you.

Claudie... thanks for the hint... I'm trying to eliminate the word verification process from comments, but I purposefully left out the ability for Anonymous Users to comment... trying to control spam. If it causes anyone a problem, email me and let me know. thanks.
ReplyDeleteDixie,
ReplyDeleteI just love peonies, but it seems like no one around my area in Texas grows them...I really don't know much about them. I would love to try to plant some though. Hope all is well with you.
Oh, and you've made some changes to your blog since the last time I visited. It looks so pretty. I love that picture as your banner!!!
